    Classroom-Based Teaching To Be Interrupted
The University of Freiburg Rectorate declares level five of the university’s phased plan

The increase in the number of coronavirus infections has continued: As the average value of the 7-day incidence has exceeded 100 on three successive days, the University of Freiburg Rectorate has declared level 5, the second highest level in its own phased plan.

The level 5 measures apply as of Monday, 2 November 2020. What this means above all is that classroom-based teaching will be interrupted and replaced by digital teaching. Exceptions are only possible for absolutely necessary practical courses, such lab courses or dissection courses, that require special laboratories or workrooms at the universities. The necessary protective measures are set out in detail in the university’s hygiene regulations. Decisions on exceptions are to be made by the Rectorate in accordance with the coronavirus regulations issued by the State of Baden-Württemberg on 1 November 2020. Classroom-based courses already legally approved by the deans for the period from 2 to 4 November 2020 may be held in this period with the proviso that they may be cancelled. The libraries will remain accessible in the present format until further notice.

As of 2 November 2020, there will also be a new state legal framework for implementing the measures passed on 28 October 2020 by the state prime ministers and the federal chancellor in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. If these new guidelines require the university to adapt its own guidelines and concepts, it will inform its members immediately.
